Team Building with Views, History, and Team Spirit
At the summit of Bergen’s highest mountain, history and modern team development come together. Ulriken Basecamp is an active and engaging team-building experience for companies seeking more than just a social gathering—here, collaboration, communication, and teamwork are strengthened through practical, hands-on challenges.
Inspired by Viking-era beacon fires, the Birkebeiner warriors, and the city’s dramatic history, your team will be tested through tasks that demand precision, creativity, and coordination. With Bergen as the backdrop and the horizon as your perspective, success is not about who is strongest individually—it is about how well you perform together.
Ulriken Basecamp provides energy, a sense of achievement, and shared experiences that teams can bring back to the workplace long after the day is over.
Can you spot the ships on the horizon—or have the Baglers already reached Oppstemten? You’ll have time to sharpen your focus before they arrive at Ulriken. This challenge is all about precision, breathing, and concentration.
An exercise in staying calm under pressure—and delivering when it matters.
👉 Develops: focus, technique, and mental control.
Problem-solving and creativity
Cairns guided people safely across the mountains and formed part of Norway’s military warning system during the Viking Age. When one beacon was lit, the next mountain would light its own, allowing signals to spread rapidly along the coast.
Now it’s your turn. Using limited resources, your team must build a structure strong enough to withstand the winds of Ulriken.
👉 Develops: structure, collaboration, and innovation.
Pattern recognition and communication
In 1217, the Birkebeiners won the civil war when HĂĄkon HĂĄkonsson became king. His reign brought stability and marked the beginning of a new golden age for Norway.
The pieces are laid out before you—but no one holds the complete picture. To succeed, you must share information, listen carefully, and identify patterns together.
Speed alone is not enough without structure.
Perspective alone is not enough without dialogue.
👉 Develops: communication, systems thinking, and teamwork.
Balance and collaboration
Bergen has experienced more than 30 major city fires since Bjørgvin was founded in 1070. Before 1855, there was no professional fire brigade—only the community.
In this challenge, your team must balance effort and coordination to “extinguish” the task at hand. No one can succeed alone.
👉 Develops: coordination, role awareness, and accountability.
Team spirit and coordination
In 1206, two Birkebeiners carried the young prince Håkon Håkonsson across the mountains to save him from the Baglers. They succeeded because they kept pace—together.
Now it’s your turn to do the same—quite literally.
One pace.
One rhythm.
One direction.
Small mistakes are amplified. Small adjustments create momentum.
👉 Develops: alignment, trust, and timing.
